There are some simple but effective ways of beginning with meditation which can be developed with experience:
1. Counting breaths – Don’t be deterred by the simplicity of this method.
Notice your breath as you inhale and exhale slowly. When you have reached a slow but regular rhythm of breathing start to count each breath as you inhale. Concentrate on your breathing alone and if your thoughts start to wander, gently bring them back to your counting. Don’t force this but make it easy and an enjoyable process.
Try this for as long as you find it easy to do without it being a strain. You should find that by repeating this every day you will find it more relaxing each time you do it and you can fit it in anywhere when you can grab a 10 minute or so period. You find you are able to count further each time you do this meditation.
Once you do finish the exercise slowly come back to your physical world by counting consciously from 1 to 5 so that you are aware of coming back to the physical plane.
2. Walking meditation
You can also do a similar mediation by counting as you are walking. You can concentrate on counting your breaths as you walk and get into a regular but relaxing rhythm. By doing this you will find that you are naturally clearing your head and you can do this on the way to the office, a meeting or any important event, or when you are out for a leisurely stroll.
3. Visualization and meditation
Start by relaxing in a comfortable chair, keeping your back straight but without any pressure or strain. Once you feel comfortable and relaxed close your eyes, inhale deeply and hold for 2 seconds, then exhale. Once you have done this, visualize a golden light coming into your head through your crown and down through your body. Allow the golden light to flow through your body and out through your feet.
As you inhale feel the energy rising to the top of your head and then as you exhale feel it flowing down your body to the bottom of your feet. Keep this flow so that it circulates with your breathing and feel the energy affecting your body whilst visualizing the energy cleansing and empowering you at the same time. If you concentrate on this energy flow you will start to feel energized once you have counted up from one to five and come back to the physical world.
